Everyone We Don’t Know - JLang x Joey Mossman
Over the past few years, this producer/artist duo has made some of the best indie pop music you can find. Every instrumental is unique and magnetic and, paired with smooth and charismatic vocals, these projects are electric. With a third EP in the works to complete the Everyone We Don't Know trilogy, JLang and Joey Mossman are an underrated creative pair.
Their first project, released early in 2021, begins with Feel It Out, an upbeat track with bit-crushed bass, a twinkly melody, plus vocals and a beat that will get you moving. Reasons I Should has a softer tone and an incredibly catchy hook. Subtle vocal hits and drum effects laced into the beat make this track really stand out. Slide and Wrong Thing close the EP with a slower tempo and watery tone, and incorporate electronic and hip-hop elements.
Everyone We Don't Know 2 opens with a guitar loop and some distorted background vocals in Rollup, a romantic tune. Pesto is a short and upbeat track with Joey's most impressive flow plus some thumping kicks and other distinctive drum selections. Then 2 A.M. just hits right with an instrumental made from a secret vocal sample and the catchiest chorus. JLang closes EWDK2 with Slide (Remix) that leads us to the electronic vibe of the upcoming third installment.
Cropped Out, a replayable summer banger, is out now. Uptight and Out My Head bring back crushed and twinkling tones but with their own vibe. Maybe I Leave's dance breakdowns add variety that still fits very well in the EWDK catalog. These projects are skillfully crafted and intricately interconnected. EWDK3 is coming in 2024!
Jake Gussman - I Can Sincerely Say I've Tried
Acoustic singer-songwriter album chronicling life and growing from adolescence into adulthood in the wooded suburbs of Jersey. With recordings that span nearly a decade, this project is uniquely introspective and conceptual. An hour containing potent ballads, wise words and reflections, found sounds, and one-of-a-kind instrumentation and vocal delivery.

A bit of a break... This is the final issue of the ready2start newsletter (at least for now, in this iteration). Making these 16 issues, finding so many talented artists and creators, and connecting with so many people has been a great joy. But in 2024, were taking a step back and focusing on making more original content - less output, but more impactful. I hope you stick around & stay tuned... -RPS
